The Malaysia East Coast Railway project spans the east and west of the Malaysian Peninsula, with the designed starting point being Kota Bharu. It runs south along the east coast, passing through Terengganu, Long Win, and Kuantan, and then turns west, passing through Malan, Wendong, Goose Mark, and Shuangwentan, to the final destination of Port Klang. The total length of the line is about 600 kilometers.
The project was constructed by Chinese enterprises and designed according to Chinese standards. It is the flagship project of the "the Belt and Road" initiative between China and Malaysia, linking important towns on the east coast of Malaysia and the economic center on the west coast. After completion, it will fill the gap of no railway connection between the east and west coasts of the Malay Peninsula.
